Alan Milburn knew he wouldn't get much backing from the solidly Brownite Guardian in considering his potential leadership bid, but the former health secretary probably wasn't expecting this double whammy from columnists Polly Toynbee and Marina Hyde.
And there was me thinking that Milburn's appeal to women voters (and journalists) was one of his political strong points....

Based on what, precisely, Paul?
I'm being mischievous, Bob...
any journalists in particular, Paul?...
Hmm, I wouldn't rule out Milburn:
1) He's an operator of crowds, mad that we are.
2) He's smart, as in sharp suits and cuffs.
3) Untainted by all that has befallen us in recent years.
4) He got out from under the NHS reforms.
5) He's a Geordie.
6) Good Old Labour credentials.
7) He isn't Gordon Brown.
8) Stress, he isn't Gordon Brown.
Odds of anything more than 10/1 is worth a punt.
Good blog btw. Definitely one to add to my paved with good intentions daily reads.
Do you know you have got Polly and Marina the wrong way round? I'd hate to mistake Polly for Marina, wouldn't you?
I find it hard to imagine which would be more scary, to be honest.
I did know I'd got them the wrong way round but I thought I'd wait and see if anyone noticed...
I see. So, like Captain Mainwaring, you wondered which of us would be the first to spot it?
