It's not often I defend David Cameron's Tories, but this comment from Noel Gallagher, songwriter with "They wait to see what Tony Blair says...and then they move in behind and switch it and change a little bit. It's like a song writer who's eternally ripping off someone else's song and just changing the odd line a little."

It's not often I defend Oasis, either (come to think of it, this is the first time) but at least their appropriation of other people's music and lyrics is a trifle more varied than the accusation levelled at David Cameron's team by Noel Gallagher.
Besides The Beatles, Oasis have merrily pinched bits of music by T-Rex, Gary Glitter, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and whoever wrote the theme tune to that old children's show You and Me.
And a bit of - er - shoplifting? - isn't a bad thing in popular music. Oasis are merely following in a noble Mancunian tradition...after all, nobody castigates Johnny Marr for his numerous lifts from T-Rex (them again) The Velvet Underground and Scotty Moore.
He was being ironic wasn't he? Even Mancs can do irony - how else would you explain Rochdale?
Oh, come on Paul. Oasis are a good band. Not as good as they think they are, of course, but good nonetheless ...
A Beatles Tribute Band? Not on Definitely Maybe, they weren't.
